The Gautrain rapid rail system has had its first section opened, linking the airport with Sandton, and this will be extended in the next year to Johannesburg and Pretoria.
The Johannesburg - OR Tambo International Airport Gautrain Station is in an elevated position on the International Departures level, accessible by lifts and escalators to the Arrivals level which is one level below departures.

In order to curb illegal touting at Johannesburg OR Tambo International Airport, ACSA has appointed a concessionary taxi and shuttle service that covers all major towns, suburbs, shopping centres and casinos. Please use airport-approved operators only. Approved operators display the ACSA logo on their vehicles and are available outside the arrivals terminals. To get to the taxi and shuttle terminus, follow the taxi and shuttle icons to the terminus, which is opposite the international arrivals terminal.

Bus, Coach and Shuttle services, including hotel provided services and the airport car park shuttle service, operate from the OR Tambo Airport Bus and Shuttle Terminus
To get to the bus and coach terminus, follow the bus and coach icons to the terminus, which is in the multi-storey parkade, behind the car-hire depots.
